This work is the development project of an Onboarding Plan or welcoming and accompanying new workers for a small family business, Sisfarma SCCL. The Plan has been created based on the experiences of those who recently joined the company and the experience of veteran workers in the workforce with the incorporation of new ones. Companies in the branch and other branches have also been consulted for information on other existing Plans. Although it seems simple to start from this basis, it has been relevant when considering how to approach the preparation of the Plan. I have made a tailor-made plan that will allow correcting real, correctable dysfunctions. The objective of the Plan is to achieve the well-being of workers, both those who join and the staff. The work describes the parts of the Plan, the processes, the resources needed to carry it out, which indicators I will use to validate it, the onboarding follow-up documents. Apart from the details of the Plan, the work also contains information on data collection techniques, work methods and bibliography.

This paper describes the development of an onboarding or welcoming and monitoring plan for new sales employees of a small family business, Sisfarma SCCL, the pharmaceutical supply company where I currently work. As of today, the company does not have an onboarding plan and this causes problems when new employees are hired. The biggest problem is high staff turnover in the sales department which is what inspired me to do this project. The plan aims to lower the turnover rate by improving the experience of new hires.
In order to design the onboarding plan, I gathered data from new hires and veteran employees using one-on-one interviews and focus group sessions. I asked them about their lived experience in the onboarding process and identified some key issues within the company: internal communication, training, knowledge of the internal workings of the company, and relationships with colleagues. I also consulted companies in both the pharmaceutical field and other fields, since I did not have an onboarding plan in place that I could reference as a starting point. These companies provided valuable insight into their onboarding plans, which helped me with Sisfarma’s plan design.
The goal of the plan is to reduce the turnover rate by solving the issues brought up during data collection, prioritizing the wellbeing of both new and existing employees. The plan is heavily influenced by the four-C principles devised by Dr. SHRM’s Tayla Bauer in Getting a Good Corporate Onboarding System: Compliance, Clarity, Culture, and Connection. The onboarding plan has five phases: pre-employment paperwork and communication within the company, tour and housekeeping on the first day, learning about the inner workings of the company in the first week, a 3-month progress monitoring period, and a final exit survey. There is an emphasis on communication and relationship building throughout the plan: the new hires are introduced to relevant team members and assigned a mentor who will support them throughout the monitoring period. There is also significant training involved related to the company’s technical systems and work methodology, increasing the new hires’ knowledge and confidence.
The paper gives detailed information about the data collection methods I used, the plan’s design, and indicators I use to validate the plan. It also includes an appendix with the plan’s documentation and a full bibliography.
